Dupatta / Stole

What Does It Means Dupatta?

The word dupatta, originally from Sanskrit is a combination of du- (meaning ‘double’ or ‘twined’) and patta (meaning ‘strip of cloth’), scarf usually doubled over the head.

Wearing traditional clothes is also a way to express fashion. One has to have the confidence to carry it with panache. We strongly believe traditional wear never goes out of fashion.

Dupatta is a versatile accessory with an enchanting charm.  It looks great on a simple salwar kameez.

A dupatta is a major ethnic accessory carried by almost every woman and girl wearing a traditional outfit.

Like saree, dupattas also have different names as per the weaving pattern, state of origion, material used and occasion of use. Few names are like Sambalpuri dupatta, Ikkat dupatta , Pattachitra, Tribal, Banarasi dupatta , Pashmina dupatta, Phulkari, Chanderi, Zardosi, Kalamkari, Georgette, Net, Chiffon, Madhubani,Kantha, Embroidery, fancy and so on.

A handloom dupatta in Odisha takes nearly 4-6 days to be woven in the loom. Mostly dupattas are 2.4 meters in length and 0.8 meter in width. Mostly wives and daughters of the weaver’s family are engaged in dupatta weaving.
