Weaving Technique

Odisha Ikat is a kind of Ikat, a resist dyeing technique, originating from Indian state of Odisha. Also known as 'Bandha of Odisha'. Bandha can be defined as "A length of systematically arranged yarn, dyed according to a preconceived design in such a manner so as to enable a weaver to portray the design when the yarn is converted to a fabric through the process of weaving". A notable feature in this Ikat is that it depicts the same colourful design motif on both its front and back. No additional yarn is required to produce this effect.

Art Origin

Bargarh – The Heart of Sambalpuri Handloom Bargarh, a municipality in the western part of Odisha, is widely recognized as the handloom and textile hub of Western Odisha. Renowned for its exceptional weaving traditions, the region is home to generations of skilled artisans who have preserved the centuries-old art of Sambalpuri Ikat. Their craftsmanship has earned global recognition for its intricate patterns, vibrant colours, and unmatched quality. Cotton Sambalpuri Ikat Saree – A Handwoven Heritage A Cotton Sambalpuri Saree is a symbol of Odisha's rich textile heritage. Every saree is meticulously handwoven using the traditional Bandha (Ikat) technique, where the yarns are carefully tie-dyed before weaving. This labour-intensive process ensures that the motifs are woven into the fabric itself rather than printed, making each saree unique. Known for their breathable fabric, elegant designs, and exceptional durability, Sambalpuri cotton sarees are ideal for everyday wear, office wear, festive occasions, and cultural celebrations. Every piece reflects the dedication, precision, and artistry of the weavers, preserving a craft that has been passed down through generations. By choosing an authentic handwoven Sambalpuri saree, you not only embrace timeless elegance but also support the livelihoods of Odisha's weaving communities and help preserve one of India's most treasured handloom traditions.
